Why I Chose Animas
Hi, my name is Caleb Gerst. I went to a dyslexic school last year called Liberty. It was a very small school, maybe 30 students in the whole school. Almost all of my friends went to Miller Middle School and they were all planning on going to DHS. Of course I wanted to be with most of my friends so I planned on going to DHS, until my mom said I was going to be shadowing Animas High School. When my mom said I was going to be shadowing I thought, well it won't make me change my decision. When I got there I felt like I fit right in with the community. While I was shadowing I realized I had a lot of friends that already went there. Later in the tour a teacher came to me and explained what the school was about. They said that they were a project based learning school, and I didn't really know what that meant. She said when you finish a project in school you don't have to go in front of class and just present a project. You actually get to do hands on skills and work on the project and then you get to present it in front of your friends and family. The idea of not having to take a big test after a project and instead making the project and presenting it to your friends and family sounded way more fun. By the time the day was over I knew I wanted to go to Animas because of the hands on learning, project based learning, and the family like community.
