1.The campus design project provided a good opportunity for us as students to see what it would be like in the “real” world. This project was about designing another school that we could move into by our senior year. We were able to obtain student and staff feedback on their preferences for a new school environment. We incorporated their ideas into to our own school plans. Even though we didn’t have our regular core classes like math and physics, we were still able to incorporate these class concepts into our projects.
2.In this project we had to create our space that we chose in sketchup. I was kindly volunteered to try and use sketchup. At first I had no Idea what I was doing and had to ask my peers how to use ketchup. After a lot of trial and error, I started to learn the system. I became good enough to help others use the system. Even though I would say I have learned a lot about using sketchup, there is still a lot more I could improve on.
3.For our project, every group member was assigned to be the leader for a certain topic. This didn't mean you had to do that topic on your own. Being group leader meant you were in charge of making sure that the topic got finished. Rather than working as a group, each person worked independently on their assigned topic. I believe it would have been better if as a group we would have focused on one topic and when we finished it we could move onto the next topic. As we progressed in the project, more people just sat and watched other group members do the work. Sometimes this was because a member had finished their topic. Other times it seemed that people were not motivated. Our group noticed this and decide to make changes. We decided every day we would see what would need to get done that day and assign tasks to our group members. This worked well.
4.I think it is important for the students to have input in their school design. Most of us know what a “normal” school is like with square rooms, bland colors, and sometimes a confusing layout of the building. From these past experiences, we could make our next school the opposite of boring. I think it's not only good for the students to design the school, I think it would be awesome if the students could be able to actually help build the school. It could turn it into a really cool project. Also, in learning about socialization it was said that younger people can be more creative than adults. I think it's a good idea to obtain student ideas because they could have an awesome non traditional idea that an adult might not have.
